Choosing the right material is the first step to a successful build. PLA for art, PETG for function, ASA for outdoors — and which brands actually perform on Bambu, Prusa, and Creality machines.

The standard for 3D printing. Derived from cornstarch, it is biodegradable and emits zero toxic fumes.
The middle ground between PLA and ABS. Durable, heat resistant, and slightly flexible.
A rubber-like material that is virtually indestructible. It doesn't break; it bends.
The "Lego" plastic. Hard, heat-resistant, and can be vapor-smoothed with acetone.
A blend of PLA and elastomers that creates a high-gloss, metallic sheen without paint.
| Material | Nozzle Temp | Bed Temp | Strength | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLA | 190-220°C | 50-60°C | High (Rigid) | Low (Brittle) |
| PETG | 230-250°C | 70-80°C | Medium | High |
| TPU | 220-240°C | 30-50°C | Low (Flex) | Extreme |
| ASA | 250-270°C | 90-110°C | High | High |
If you choose Glow-in-the-Dark, Carbon Fiber, or Wood-filled filaments for your Drafted Dreams models, be warned: These materials are highly abrasive. A standard brass nozzle will be destroyed halfway through a large print. Always switch to a Hardened Steel Nozzle for these materials.
The same filament behaves differently on different machines. Here's what to expect — and what settings to start with — for the most popular printers in the Drafted Dreams community.
Bambu's filament profile library covers 95% of brands. For best results: use Bambu brand PLA Basic for multi-color prints (pre-calibrated flow ratios). For PETG, eSUN or Polymaker are excellent third-party options — download their profiles from BambuStudio's online library.
Prusa's built-in profiles are excellent for PLA, PETG, and ASA. For MMU3 multi-color, use Prusament PLA (best tip-forming behavior of any PLA tested) for reliable swaps. Avoid high-fill silks with MMU — the variable diameter causes selector errors.
K1/K1 Max: the CHT-style nozzle has very high flow — use filaments that handle 25mm³/s without burning. Hyper-PLA formulations (Bambu, Creality Hyper, eSUN) are designed for this. For Ender 3 with stock Bowden: avoid TPU (use direct drive upgrade first) and keep PETG retraction at 6–7mm.
The Qidi enclosure shines with engineering filaments. ABS, ASA, PA-CF all print beautifully without warping at stock chamber temps. For PLA in the Q1 Pro: turn off the chamber heater and leave the door open — PLA in an enclosed 40°C chamber causes heat creep.

Pre-calibrated for Bambu. Excellent finish. Best for multi-color with AMS. Minimal diameter variance.
Shop Amazon →Stronger than standard PLA, better layer adhesion, minimal warp. Best all-rounder for any printer. What we use for most functional Drafted Dreams parts.
Shop Amazon →Very low stringing for PETG — retraction at 0.5mm beats most PETG brands at 6mm. Our top pick for workshop tools and outdoor fixtures.
Shop Amazon →UV stable, 95°C heat deflection, acetone-smoothable. Best for outdoor parts. Consistent diameter batch-to-batch — critical for color matching on a project.
Shop Amazon →The "store-bought sheen" filament. Perfect for Gothic Noir collection, decorative trays, incense burners. Reduce flow 2–3% and lower speed 20% vs regular PLA.
Shop Amazon →For tactical patches, grips, flexible joints. Requires direct drive (Bambu, Prusa MK4, Qidi Q1). Print at 25–35mm/s, zero retraction on Bowden is better than retracting.
Shop Amazon →Bambu AMS settings, Prusa MMU tips, Creality K1 Klipper tuning, Qidi and Voron — per-machine optimization.
